NAOMI WATTS...la demolicion del aro

En tiempos recientes la industria fílmica se ha visto conquistada por actores de diversas nacionalidades llegando a un punto donde la invasion británica y australiana es inclusive mayor que la misma americana. Dentro de esta peculiar ola tenemos un caso que abarca ambas nacionalidades, ya que naciendo en el poblado de Kent, Inglaterra, un septiembre de 1968 hija de una negociante de antigüedades y el manager e ingeniero de sonido de la popular banda Pink Floyd, Naomi Ellen Watts pasa su infancia moviéndose de poblado en poblado dentro de su natal Inglaterra debido a los amoríos y reconciliaciones de sus padres hasta dar por terminada su relación y terminarla en divorcio, lo que orilla a su madre y hermano a mudarse a Sydney, Australia durante su adolescencia y donde su madre termina por dedicarse al negocio de diseño de vestuario para la television local, trabajando en varios comerciales, lo que la orilla a tomar clases de actuación donde conoce e inicia una amistad que perdura hasta la fecha con la otra actriz Nicole Kidman. Tras no terminar la escuela y fallar en pequeños trabajos como repartidora de periódicos y administrar una pastelería, incursiona en el modelase a la edad de 18, sin embargo también no logra despegar por lo que termina incursionando en la television.

Su brinco a la pantalla grande viene tras conocer a un director en una carpeta roja de una cinta de su amiga Kidman, quien la invita a participar en un rol secundario en su siguiente proyecto "Flirting" (1991), un melodrama sobre el romance de dos adolescentes y que le permitió co protagonizar a lado de dos nuevas estrellas, su amiga Nicole Kidman y la actriz Thandie Newton, obteniendo la cinta excelentes criticas y una vez que estas se mudan a los Angeles, hara viajes esporádicos para conocer agentes y buscar oportunidades en Hollywood. Siendo así que tras sus papeles en cintas Australianas y pequeños roles en producciones americanas empieza a construir una carrera y un nombre que le abra las puertas en la industria fílmica mundial. No es sino hasta 1999, cuando el director David Lynch, sin conocer o haber visto su carrera previa, le ofrece el rol protagónico de la cinta "Mullholand Dr."(2001), un thriller psicológico que curiosamente le siente perfectamente a la actriz al interpretar a una aspirante actriz recién mudada a los Los Angeles que se hace amiga de una joven con amnesia para hospedarse en la casa de su tia lo que desencadenara una serie de giros de tuerca que le darían el estatus de clásico y generándole excelentes criticas y varias nominaciones a los premios mas importantes de la industria. Con tato pedigree de la cinta, la actriz logra despegar su carrera que solo iría en despunta al protagonizar la cinta de terror "The Ring" (2002), una adaptación del clásico japonés, una historia sobre un fantasma que asechara a todo aquel que vea una cinta VHS. La cinta obtuvo buenas criticas para su genero y sobre todo una excelente respuesta de taquilla.

Compaginando su creciente carrera en Hollywood con la industria fílmica australiana, participa en la cinta "Ned Kelly" (2002), una bio epic sobre un convicto que junto a su hermano organizan una banda en contra de la opresión Britanica e Irlandesa de una Australia del siglo XIX. La cinta llega a America pero genera poca atención al centrarse en una historia poco conocida por estas tierras. Coprotagoniza con Orlando Bloom y Heath Ledger, con quien iniciara una relación que duraría hasta el 2004.  Para 2003 formara parte del elenco del siguiente proyecto del director mexicano Alejandro G. Iñárritu, "21 grams", un drama que relaciona tres historias con el tema de la muerte involucrado en diferentes tiempos, presente, pasado y futuro. La actriz es el centro de una historia sobre una madre padeciendo la perdida de su hijo. Con excelentes criticas y un bajo presupuesto que permite su moderada taquilla convertirla en un éxito. Co protagoniza a lado de actores de la talla de Sean Penn y Benicio del Toro.

Para 2004 participa en el drama independiente "We don't live here anymore", una historia de dos parejas que acostumbran juntarse seguido para cenar y convivir tratando de ocultar los problemas internos que padecen, generando que un miembro de una pareja busque iniciar una relación con un miembro de la otra pareja. Co protagoniza a lado de Mark Buffalo y Laura Dern. Le sigue "The Assassination of Richard Nixon" (2004), una cinta que retrata al hombre detrás de el intento de asesinato para el presidente en 1974. La actriz interpretaría a la ex esposa del hombre que planea dicho atentado. Siguiendo con éxito su recorrido por el cine independiente, se une al elenco multi estelar de la cinta "i heart Huckabees" (2004), un melodrama filosófico sobre una pareja de detectives contratados para descubrir el significado de la vida para sus clientes, siendo la actriz uno de estos últimos, y a pesar de las buenas criticas y una pobre taquilla, ele éxito esta en su reparto que incluye a Dustin Hoffman, Jude Law y Mark Wahlberg.

Tras el éxito obtenido con la original, era de esperarse una secuela y así le vemos en "The Ring Two" (2005), la cual no logra despertar el mismo interés y aunque no considerada un fracaso, definitivamente no fue un éxito. Regresando a la escena independiente, co protagonizó a lado de Ewan McGregor y Ryan Gosling el thriller psicológico "Stay" (2005), una historia que se representa intensas relaciones centradas en la muerte, amor y realidad. Pero aun así brinca a los grandes blockbusters protagonizando el remake del clásico "King Kong" (2005), a lado de Adrian Brody y Jack Black, interpretando a la rubia en peligro y amor platónico de un gorila gigante que se escapa en plena ciudad de Nueva York en 1933. Obviamente un hit en taquilla pero sorpresivamente también para la critica, gracias a la dirección del visionario director Peter Jackson. Ese mismo año inicia una relación con el actor Liev Schieber, con quien tendría dos hijos, el primero en 2007, y el segundo 2008, a quien conoce al co protagonizar juntos la cinta "The Painted Veil"(2006), un drama basado en la novela homónima sobre una pareja que se muda a Shanghai donde el esposo se vera atrapado por su trabajo mientras su esposa inicia un affair con un diplomático que la incursiona en la vida social que tanto ella extraña como parte de su vida.

En 2007 se pone bajo la mano del aclamado director David Cronenberg, "Eastern Promises", una cinta de gangters donde co protagoniza a lado de Viggo Mortensen y Vincent Cassel en una historia de una esposa Britanica y sus relaciones con la mafia rusa en Londres. Y lo que pareciera ser su genero favorito la lleva a protagonizar otro thriller psicológico, "Funny Games" (2007), un remake del clásico australiano, sobre un par de adolescentes que secuestran a una familia en su propia casa y los aterrorizan en un juego que pondrá en peligro sus vidas. Lamentablemente, en el Occidente no logro el mismo éxito que en su tierra natal. "The International" (2009), es su primer cinta después de un corto retiro por maternidad. Un thriller politico a lado del actor Clive Owen y que sigue a un agente de la Interpol y un abogado de distrito americano en una investigación sobre un banco corrupto y que ayuda a gobiernos y organizaciones corruptas. Con una respuesta mediana, la cinta paso al olvido muy pronto. "Fair Game" (2010", seria su siguiente proyecto. Un drama de espionaje nuevamente a lado del actor Sean Penn, por tercera ocasión, esta vez sobre una pareja fungiendo como espías dentro de la casa blanca. Desgraciadamente es otro punto neutro en taquilla y critica que la hacen pasar desapercibida.

Regresando a lo suyo con otro thriller psicológico, esta vez a lado del actor Daniel Craig, "Dream House" (2011), cuenta la historia de una pareja que se muda a su nueva casa en los suburbios para descubrir que esta ha sido testigo de un asesinato en el pasado y con la ayuda de su vecina buscaran resolver que paso antes que sea demasiado tarde. Este representa uno de los fracasos mas sonados para la carrera de la actriz. Ese mismo año forma parte del nuevo proyecto del director Clint Eastwood, "J. Edgar", un drama bio épico sobre la vida de dicho presidente de los EU y donde la actriz interpretara a la secretaria que se convertiría en confidente y asistente del presidente y sus paranoias que lo llevarían a la creación de la CIA. Nuevamente a lado del actor Ewan Mcgregor protagoniza la cinta "The Impossible", un drama intenso sobre una familia atrapada en un país lejano tras ser víctimas de un sunami y ser separados por tal evento buscando la manera de sobrevivir y re encontrarse. Una excelente y emotiva cinta que logro un éxito tanto en taquilla como critica.

Y trabajando intensamente, los siguientes años la veremos muy seguido en la pantalla. Primero en un proyecto que termino en desastre, la comedia "Movie 43" (2013), una serie de sketches dirigidos por diferentes comediantes y que cuenta con un elenco multi estelar pero que el resultado no es ni divertido ni atractivo para la audiencia que la hace uno de los mayores fracasos del 2013. Regresando a la escena independiente, co protagoniza "Amore" (2013), un drama sobre dos amigas de toda la vida que inician cada una, una  relación con el hijo de su amiga. Y posteriormente protagoniza "Diana", una biografía de la princesa pero que termino en otro gran fracaso en todos aspectos para la actriz a pesar de su buena representación de la misma. En 2014 se pone bajo la batuta de Iñárritu nuevamente en "Birman", un drama sobre un actor maduro que trata de recuperar sus años de gloria tras haber interpretado al héroe homónimo que le trajo éxito y fama tan solo para re evaluar su carrera y su vida presente. La cinta gano el premio de la academia entre otros premios y nominaciones. Co protagoniza a lado de Edward Norton, Michael Keaton y Emma Stone.

También form parte de la cinta "St. Vincent" (2014), un melodrama sobre un joven que al mudarse con su madre soltera, busca amistarse con el neurótico vecino de a lado, tan solo para aprender algo nuevo los dos que los ayudara a superar el momento estancado en que se encuentran sus vidas. La actriz interpreta a una prostituta rusa que funge como amante del vecino. En "While we're young" (2014), representa a una mujer que a lado de su esposo sufren una crisis de edad media al conocer a una pareja de jóvenes que busca re juvenecerlos al introducirlos en su mundo y ellos tratar de comportarse como jóvenes otra vez tan solo para darse cuenta de que los años no pasan en vano. Ambas cintas tuvieron distribución limitada lo que contribuyo a su mediana taquilla mas no por eso excelentes criticas. Incursionando en el nuevo genero de adaptaciones de novelas YA, forma parte de "Insurgent" (2015), la secuela de la serie "Divergent" sobre un grupo de jóvenes en un futuro con una sociedad dividida y estereotipada y que lucharan por romper estas barreras al darse cuenta que hay mas opciones que las limitaciones presentadas. Este año la vimos en la tercera parte de dicha serie titulada "Allegiant", continuando la lucha de este grupo de jóvenes por re establecer el orden en su fracturada sociedad y tratando de lecciones con un mensaje de aceptación y diversidad. Desgraciadamente cada nueva propuesta ha generado menos interés y peores criticas.

Este mes la vimos en "Demolition" (2016), un drama sobre un hombre lidiado con la perdida de su mujer literalmente demoliendo todo lo que ha construido como una metáfora para empezar de nuevo y re descubrirse como hombre y persona. La actriz interpreta a una madre soltera que se identifica con la faceta de este hombre lo cual los une de una manera muy especial. Desgraciadamente la critica y la audiencia no se sintieron de igual manera. Próximamente la veremos en "About Ray" (2016), otro drama sobre el proceso de cambio de sexo para una joven, su transformación como hombre y su impacto en su familia. Posteriormente la veremos regresar a su genero favorito en "Shut in", un thriller psicológico que se estrena en septiembre y cuenta la historia de una terapeuta de niños, viuda, atrapada por una tormenta de nieve en una aislada finca. Ojalá esta ocasión los resultados sean mas gratificares que sus últimos intentos y finalmente regrese a esos proyectos que la han puesto dentro de las favoritas del publico y ojalá pronto de la critica y la Academia.

Everybody Wants Some!! ... what did you get??

Sometimes, it's not all about a story but a bunch of moments that define the person that we'll become. And mostly the people that surround us will influence in many ways our perspectives and ideas of live, love, success, fun and friendships. All that and more is "Everybody wants some!!"(2016), the new project from awarded director Richard Linklater, the one that in my personal opinion should had won the Oscar last year, but as he has proved with his unique style, we get another story that is more like a sum of moments that in certain way celebrate the early 80's as a new decade awakening to the modern era we know these days and also to the process of acknowledging who we are transitioning from a teenager to a man. Because who hasn't questioned before how come they became the guy we are now, the man that goes to work and watch games and drinks beer just as everybody else instead of something different or maybe just the opposite. Every man embraces the fact or being part of a group of guys and feel like a wolf pack venturing through the world seeking validation from himself and others and specially from the opposite sex, a mission that every man dedicates full time, the feeling of being desired and popular among women that are willing to believe all his speech and go as far as he will be ready to take them.

So in order to tell all this misfortunes, we are introduce to the baseball of team of a regular american college, where leaded by one of the new guys in the team, we'll also get to meet the rest of the team or at least the ones that make the team the number one in the state. But who are these guys? Some of them have nicknames, others are called by their names and a few are just followed by their personality. The one that is ruled by hormones and desires. Trying to conquer the world, their own world and searching for answers that will come after a long session of smoking and drinking, but mostly at those times when bounding with the rest of the guys just trying to make it through another day, building relationships and discovering personalities that will click and others that won't. What defines being a man? Why do they all behave like a bunch of idiots amor cave men just trying to have fun or prove something. And that might be the point as all of them start to get competitive and that competition leads to perfectionism and that will put together a group of individuals willing to do their best and prove among the others that they are part of the team, that they have something to offer, and that opportunity is well appreciate and admire by the others just in time for be part of a team and feel part of a group that will support you as much as taking advantage of you.

Here won't be feelings arising or drama. They will hate each other just to be cool ten seconds later. They will push each other to their limits just to get what is needed from everyone but also will make fun of you if necessary to break the ice and entertain the rest and prove how smart and funny you are making stupid jokes using you as a bait because they makes me smarter over you. But ate the end all is for a good cause and just after the first pitch of beer arrives, they will become closer as brothers. How many guys are hazed and heated in school or their jobs just for being different? How many times we wonder why we did such bunch of stupid thing back then just to follow others? It's all about having fun, but behind that, hides the real essence of anyone, after the first couple of days when we pretend and show the face we are trying to wear in public, we start showing our true colors and everybody start getting a real idea of who we are over who we want to be. But thanks to all those moments that we are pushed or tempted to try is that we experienced all kind of feelings and ideas that will open our mind to figure out what is our own concert of life and what we want from it.

Man will be man, no matter what, and specially when a woman is involved. Then he will bring the best of him to try to conquer her heart or just get laid. But those moments at a party while getting waisted and chasing girls by giving them a big speech about how amazing we are, trying to making them laugh so they can see how sweet and funny we are, hoping that will take us to bed and get naked, is just part of a ritual that will help in the future to earn some practice and make up our mind about the type of girl we want for us in the real deal. Because men have only one thing in mind all the time, and that only thing is the one we share with all our species: sex. Because there is nothing more important than having as much sex as possible. It's not about our grades, classes, connections, networking, etc that we go to college but the multiple possibilities that all men have to get super laid.

And that's why everybody want some. Success, fun, sex, parties, friends, love, knowledge.  A new future opens for us when we are young and these might apply in other ways any time of our lives. Never is too late to break barriers, open our mind and rediscover ourselves. Making new friends and embracing all those thing we know we like and try some other new will make us go from one decade to the there and instead of college, it might be a new job, a new city or actually going back to school and keep ourselves preparing in new fields and turning our lives into multiple circles instead of just one but always good to make a quick stop and celebrate those moments when possibilities felt like a first time, when you realize that you are freshmen in colleague, meaning you are not in high school anymore and that puts you into another level and now you are by yourself and it's time for you to start making your decisions, creating a new family that will be packed for your recently assigned and selected brothers cause they will be part of your next years and then for the rest of your life just to realize you did the same to them because everybody gets some.

Live your life SHAMELESS....

How broken can someone be so can't be fixed? How many issues are we been carrying for a life that define us and when comes to the point of share our life with someone or raise a family, those same issues will become part of the family and will be present in every step of the way dictating every move we make and categorizing every decision. We are what we are thanks to our experience and a mix of genetics and destiny. But how deep can some scars be that will hurt if we try to avoid or how easy is just to follow the patterns instead or fighting to be someone different. There's always a point when we can choose and either can be easy but miserable or hard but satisfying. Life seems like a bunch of test that will prove what we are made of and will shape the person we are meant to become. But always all this process will come in hands of others that will deliver the tasks and consequences, being only us in charge of the doing, taking decision that will not just in between all the others.This is "SHAMELESS" (2011-current), a tv show that has been categorized as a comedy but can be looked as a drama with a big heart and lots of comedy, just like life is.

Owning it's success to that mix of drama and comedy while being one of the most unapologetic, realistic show in tv, full of sex and naked bodies, again, just like life is. Based on the same British concept of the show, you'll be first introduce to the Gallagher's, a very white american family than other than be very united and seem like a picture perfect are nothing but a mess. Frank, the father, happens to be a selfish alcoholic that will only seek for his benefit and personal satisfaction, no matter if needs to take advantage of any of his children in order to get money or whatever he needs to get away with it. Instead of trying to raise his kids and keep the family safe and united leading them with a good example, seems like the only example he's using will be defined as the how not to become, reason enough why his oldest daughter will assume responsibility for her siblings, trying to give them love, attention and all care they need, but her role as a substitute mother won't fit her well, as even her love to them is real, she needs to learn how to love herself first and realize that she needs to have a life of her own, reason why she will fall into all kind of dysfunctional relationships and embrace some addictions that might be part of her heritage.

So time for the second in charge to rise up, Lip, the oldest son, a young man, way younger than Fionna, will have a journey that will turn him into the only sane and good person in the family, just in comparison with the rest as he also has a baggage of his own, even he is smart and want to learn and do something, he also likes an easy life, so in order to achieve that kind of goal, he'll become in what everyone needs him to be, putting his family first than even himself. But as a family, he is not alone, his brother Ian, will become his best friend as well, until he devolves the same bi polar illness that their mother has, and as gay guy will fight to be accepted in every way even if he doesn't accept himself as a whole, looking for that acceptance and love in the eyes of his bullying neighbor, just as his other younger sister, Debbie, a teenager looking for validation and romance in ways that she have never experience from a very dysfunctional family, leading her to do whatever it takes to find a guy that will like her and become a woman. And finally, Carl, a kid that sees his father as a role model, when should be the opposite, only to take him to the wrong path and send him to do all the wrong things a good man to be will do.

Other characters will appear and be introduce to this family that in their own way are here to prove that family matters not even under what kind of circumstances but mostly that life is messed up and that in a country like USA, where we are used to certain social rules and stereotypes, also exist a bunch of families like this willing to take advantage of the system and under the oat of being americans and true believers of the American dream, will prove how even in the best families, things get really complicated and we all have issues of our own and is our journey to find a way to deal with them or make the best of them, always proving that at the end of the day family is the most important social cell and being surrounded and loved by those people is all what matters, to have hope and believe things can be better, even happy endings don't exist all the time, life will bring good new at the same time of bringing that will complicate things and put in a test the life we know. But most of the time we are just the sum of our circumstances and we'll need to stand up and speak for ourselves always counting with the help of the people we gladly call family.

So what will be better, live a structured life with all the economical benefits but tied up to explore yourself and try something different or be free and able to break the rules because we don't care about rules and structure, only the ones we created to survive and be able to have what is closer to a normal life. Bad habits die hard. But we are capable or evolving and make changes, not that will be easy but there always will be options and with the support of our family we can all come with a new solution to our problems and even we can be broken from the inside, all this love, and support, and a need of survival will, eventually, bring the best of us, at least for a moment that will serve as a glimpse of what can be. So even we will laugh and love this family and our own one,  we'll also hate it once they start showing their true colors, but isn't that the point? to realize we all have issues and we all need some love but at the end of the day and after a series of laughs, crying, screaming, running, it is fun to break the rules and challenge a system that has taken me and the people i love to a position where best survival will be the one dancing and drinking in the middle of the night while sharing a shitty broken life surrounded by all this people that might lack of lots of must but they love you and ill be there for you, and that is more worthy than any successful and high class status that anyone would die to throw us. At the end of the day we are just another family, survivors, the Gallagher's.

Someone is watching us....Eye in the Sky

What would be more important....save the life of one or trying to save the life of millions? Decisions, decisions...and that's the plot and all the base for the new film "EYE IN THE SKY" (2016), an intense drama customized as a thriller where we get to be part of how the life of millions and other few are decided and ended or forgiven by just a few. Are we playing god these days, or what power do some get over other to control faith and be able to destroy or create. We are sit in a moral dilemma of what is good and what could be better and mostly who is bad and who is dispensable. All of these comes in a story leaded by the great actress Helen Mirren, playing a militar colonel in charge of a secret operation trying to locate and killed a list of the most wanted terrorist nowadays has the opportunity to guide from her base in the UK a mission that will accomplish it's target. So everything starts once some agents in Kenya get the intel of a secret reunion between these most wanted bringing the opportunity to put a target on them and take them out.

Following these operation is a lieutenant general and a couple of american pilots in charge of a drone carrying the bomb that will annihilate them. So once the pieces start to get together and targets are reunited, its time to make some decisions as should we order a missile attack? are those people actually the ones we are looking for? is it safe to drop a bomb with a minim collateral damage?, check, check, che...no wait!, there always will be collateral damage so in order for a nation to be able to fire a missile in a foreign land has to reduce it at less than 50%. So now someone can drop a bomb in your backyard only if they can prove according to a lot of maths and analysis from a computer that the damage will be less than that. As shocking as it sounds, these is the world we live now and part of has become from terrorist attacks. So when things happen in this scenario, this possible damage goes up to 75%, so the whole mission goes in stand by, specially by the morals of some that not only see these as a militar move, but can see the damage to others, mostly innocent people, will carry.

So, in order to continue the mission, a lot of people has to be involved and a lot of greens will be needed, but at the same time this group is trying to do their best to reduce the damage and continue with the target, these targets are planning another move that seems like possible will affect another million of people or worse. So then we get t the point where we are caught by a moral conflict between saving those that we are able to save now and we are watching right now and are as innocents as any other but happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or sacrificing them in order to possibly save others, that we still don't know when, and how many will be but we can mostly imagine i,t is worth it. And things only get worse when we realize how easy is for some to just look at what's happening now other than the big picture and not relate to others than are also needed to be safe. How can someone else other than ourselves is capable of decide our future or if we live or die, Isn't that wat are they trying to fight anyways, to save lives, so means that some lives are more valuable than others ?

And when we stop to think about all this dilemma things get more scary once we realize how some nations have taken power and control over the world and over others. Here is group taking all decisions, that is represented for just some of the most powerful countries in the world but should it be one reprinted for a variety and bigger selection of different nations. Definitely they are judging themselves by their own recent power but that won't stop them to continue ruling what their think will be the best for them or maybe for the rest of us, but why has to be a decision of a selected and privileged group. The fight against terrorism is a worldwide problem that should be solved in the same way.  We are living in a classist world where some nations are ruling the planet while others are just mere spectators and the rest are the target for them for their best interests. But thing not only get there, once we realize how far are they willing to get to achieve their goals, as they are able to spy on us and have access to all our data, becoming public and without any privacy anymore.

Hence to the title, there is someone watching you, observing every step you make, analyzing all the information can get from you, from your credit card balance and shopping history to all your family and personal background, personal interests and every location you been at. You can be invited to a party and been having a great time just before realizing your host had made some bad thing and if that makes him a target for the government, you will be also invited to see first row how they'll drop a bomb over the patio that you might or not survive but that's not the issue but make sure that friendly host is dead and buried otherwise a second missile will touch base again. How dispensable we become in order to accomplish others mission? and these is just a big picture but back to our daily basis we can also see these among our neighbors, job, friends, family, even relationships. We play under the rule of making decision for a better but sometimes we forget the price it comes with it or we blind ourselves of the collateral damage of them, which at the end might not be the better we thought but the worst. Only real thing around this is that every decision will bring two or more possible scenarios and we'll always have to face any of them but how capable and aware we are of them before it hits you. Sometimes we don't need to save or take a life to create big damage but just a sentence or an action to take away all what we been fighting for. Is it really necessary?

The nine miracles of...JENNIFER GARNER

Hay talentos natos y otros que se sienten forzados, y aveces la fama viene mas por el resultado de varios factores que por el mismo talento o el resultado de tu trabajo. Tal pareciera ser el caso de Jennifer Anne Garner, una Texana que creció en West Virginia bajo la influencia de un padre conservador, ingeniero de profesión y una madre mas liberal al ser una maestra de profesión. Su lado artístico inicio desde pequeña cuando incursiono en clases de ballet para terminar graduándose con una licenciatura en Arte, estudiando la universidad en Ohio donde fue parte de una fraternidad para mujeres lo que la orillo a estudiar teatro una vez que se muda a Connecticut, lo que irónicamente no concuerda con las declaraciones de la actriz respecto a convertirse en actriz y perseguir dicha carrera, ya que según ella, hubiera preferido medicina ya que la actuación era algo no posible para ella. Sin embargo pareciera que sus decisiones fueron las correctas pues logra colarse varios papeles en teatro para obras de verano en la ciudad de Atlanta y que la llevarían a moverse una vez mas, ahora  a la ciudad de Nueva York, donde participo en teatro de bajo presupuesto lo que la orillaría a buscar otras opciones para sobrevivir, como pequeñas apariciones en series de television e inclusive tener su primer aparición en cine en una comedia a lado del actor Ashton Kutcher, "Dude, where's my car? (2000), la cual fue una sorpresa en taquilla pero su estupido humor la hizo pedazos por la critica.

Sin embargo su gran oportunidad vendría después cuando el productor J.J. Abrahams le propondría el protagónico de su nueva serie de espionaje al haberla visto en roles recurrentes en otra de sus series. Así para el 2001, protagoniza la serie "Alias" (2001-2006), para la cual tuvo que tomar clases de karate e incursionar en artes marciales para dar vida su personaje de Sydney Bristow, una agente de la CIA fungiendo como agente secreto para otra agencia a nivel mundial. Dadas las necesidades del personaje la misma actriz y el productor dudaron al inicio que funcionaria para ambos ya que la actriz era demasiado femenina para un rol de acción y agresivo, mas al final, y tras varias clases que ayudaron a la actriz a afrontar el reto, salir avante y la serie es ya un clásico de la época y el genero.

Ganando fama tras protagonizar a serie oportunidades en roles cinematográficos empezaron a presentarse, y dada la imagen que se creo ahora, irónicamente, de mujer fatal en television, su primer gran rol en cine seria otra mujer de acción, nada mas ni nada menos que Elektra, famosa heroina en los comic books que hizo su debut en "Daredevil" (2003), co protagonizando con Ben Affleck, quien seria su futuro esposo, mas en ese entonces la actriz se encontraba casada con el actor Scott Foley, a quien conoció mientras hacia pequeños papeles en television y de quien se divorciara tiempo después. El éxito de la cinta la llevaría a protagonizar su propio spin off en "Elektra" (2005), pero por desgracia en ea ocasión la respuesta tanto en taquilla como en critica no fue favorable por lo cual la actriz decide dejar el rol por la paz. Entre ambas cintas, la actriz protagonizo al lado de Mark Buffalo la comedia romántica "13 going 30", donde una adolescente solo desea tener 30 para ser finalmente una mujer adulta y evitar los por menores de la adolescencia despertando un día viendo su deseo una realidad y que le dará una lección de vida al aprender que algunas decisiones de corazón importan mas que otras por mera conveniencia. La cinta fue un éxito y permitir a la actriz mostrar otra faceta mas apegada a su personalidad fuera de pantalla.

Razón por la cual tras terminar la serie de television en 2006, protagoniza el melodrama "Catch and Release" (2006), contando la historia de una joven que sufre la perdida de su prometido mientras busca consuelo con sus amigos que solo traerán buenos recuerdos y algún que otro secreto. Por desgracia no logro ni recuperar su presupuesto en la taquilla poniendo en tela de juicio la popularidad de la actriz, sin contar las malas criticas. Para entonces la actriz también termina su relación con el actor Michael Vartan, su co protagonista en la serie e inicia su nuevo noviazgo con Affleck, que los llevaría a casarse y procrear dos hijas y un hijo. Así, en 2007 regresa al genero de acción con un thriller de guerra, "The Kingdom", co protagonizando a lado de Jamie Foxx y Chris Cooper,  basado ligeramente en la historia de dos ataques militares bombardeando sus estaciones en el medio Oriente. Su recepción fue mediana tanto en critica como en taquilla por lo cual no se puede considerar ni un éxito ni un fracaso, mucho menos cuando la actriz no carga sola el peso de la cinta. Por fortuna meses después aparece en la cinta independiente "Juno" (2007), contando la historia de una adolescente que al descubrirse embarazada busca una pareja para dar su hijo en adopción mientras durante el embarazo aprenderá una o varias lecciones de vida, amor y lo que maternidad realmente significa. La cinta fue un éxito sorpresivo de taquilla y que la llevo inclusive a ser considerada una de las mejores cintas del 2007 por la critica y la Academia.

Tras un breve receso de maternidad regresa por la puerta grande protagonizando la comedia romántica "Ghosts of Girlfriends past" (2009), a lado de Mathew McConaughey en una nueva version del clásico cuento donde tres fantasmas del pasado se presentaran una noche para tratar de ayudar a un alma perdida, en este caso, un mujeriego con la mujer de sus sueños frente a el y apunto de perderla para siempre. Obviamente la critica la rechazo, salvándola únicamente la química de los protagonistas en pantalla así como el carisma del elenco de reparto, lo cual la llevo a una bastante decente taquilla para su genero.Continuando con el genero, participa en la comedia del comediante Rick Gervais "The invention of Lying" (2009), que nuevamente solo se queda a medias tintas, ni gana ni pierde, pero aquí la actriz no fue la estrella, sino el comediante quien protagoniza y dirige esta parodia ubicada en una realidad virtual donde nadie miente siendo el, la primer persona capaz de hacerlo. Para 2010, otra vez la actriz cede el protagonismo para solo formar parte de un elenco multi estelar en "Valentine's Day", donde un grupo de historias entre cruzadas respecto al amor y la amistad y sus diferentes facetas. Obviamente la cinta esta repleta de cliches que la hicieron ser rechazada por la critica mas en taquilla fue un éxito total. Curiosamente su participación en esta viñeta de historias, se remonta a ser la mejor amiga de un joven que es abandonado por su novia días después de haberle propuesto matrimonio.

Su siguiente proyecto, "Arthur" (2011), es otro reciclaje del original homónimo de 1981, sobre un joven mal criado y prepotente y millonario que tendrá que firmar para un matrimonio arreglado con tal de no perder su fortuna, tan solo para encontrar el amor en el peor momento. A pesar de contar con elenco de primera y ser una historia conocida, la cinta fue uno de los mas grandes fracasos en taquilla y critica de ese año. Y por absurdo que parezca, pareciera que la actriz siguiera empeñada a encontrar y participar en historias ridículas y sin sentido, sin haber aprendido las lecciones del pasado o tal vez son solo estas las que se le presentan a la puerta, pero en 2012 protagoniza "Butter", una comedia ubicada en el mundo de las competencias de figuras creadas con mantequilla. Tan sin sentido es la historia y el personaje principal que ni la actriz pudo salvar este fracaso, solo añadiendo una de sus peores interpretaciones como una mujer obsesiva por ganar este singular evento.

Por fortuna, meses después la vemos en "The odd Life of Timothy Green" (2012), un drama de fantasia donde una pareja que esta luchando por tener hijos, despierta un día con la sorpresa de tener el hijo que tanto han deseado, tal como lo imaginaron, pero que desgraciadamente solo vendrá a ayudarlos a mostrarles el camino que necesitan tomar para poder adoptar a un pequeño y ser la familia que siempre han querido, pero la presencia del joven no solo cambiara la vida de la joven pareja sino de todo aquellos que la rodean. Tal inspiradora historia solo podría venir de la casa Disney, quien sabiendo su formula se anoto otro éxito y permitir a la actriz cambiar su rumbo a papeles mas familiares y maternales, perfectos para su rol fuera de la pantalla. Esto y su anhelada fantasia de ser doctora la llevaría a formar parte de la cinta "Dallas Buyers Club" (2013), nuevamente a lado de McConaughey, contando la historia verídica de un hombre que tras ser diagnosticado con HIV buscara la manera de proveer con el medicamento a todos aquellos recién infectados en los 80's cuando el virus exploto en EU y poco se sabia al respecto. La cinta gozo de grandes criticas y premios así como para su elenco, mas la actriz fue totalmente ignorada.

Esto solo sirvió para abrirle mas puertas y en 2014 regreso con mayor fuerza, co protagonizando a lado de Kevin Costner "Draft Day", un día en la vida de un entrenador de football en el estresante día en que se seleccionan las nuevas adquisiciones para los diferentes equipos. La actriz solo funge como segunda mano e interés amoroso, lo cual funciono al momento de que la cinta no funcionara en taquilla. Regresando bajo la batuta del director Jason Reitman, form parte de la cinta "Men, Women & child" (2014), una critica moderna a las relaciones interpersonales de jóvenes y adultos en una era gobernada por la tecnología. Interpretando a una madre protectora, que controla el uso de la tecnología de su hija adolescente, presentando una vision conservadora hacia la misma, pareciera una de sus mejores interpretaciones mas aveces se siente mas como un re interpretación de si misma, ya que la actriz a encabezado una campaña para el control de los paparazzis contra su familia, así como activista política para los demócratas. Desgraciadamente el intento del comediante Adam Sandler en un rol serio co protagonizando con la actriz no funciono y la cinta tuvo una muy limitada exhibición y taquilla.

Volviendo al techo de la casa Disney y co protagonizando con el comediante Steven Carell , participa en "Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day" (2014), una comedia basada en los libros infantiles sobre un adolescente que ve su suerte cambiar para bien en un día en que su familia sufrirá de los peores momentos pero que al final solo los unirá mas como familia y con lecciones que aprender para cada uno. Nuevamente la formula inspiradora y orientada a los valores familiares retribuyeron no solo en taquilla sino en buenas criticas. Su siguiente cinta "Danny Collins" (2015), la regresa al drama en una historia de una leyenda de la música que tras sus días de gloria y viendo la vejez acercase, busca re vindicarse con la vida y su familia y de paso encontrar esa persona que lo acepte por como es y no por lo que fue. Con un excelente reparto protagonizando Annette Bening y Al Pacino, por desgracia para la actriz solo funge en un rol pequeño como la esposa del hijo que lucha por perdonar a un padre que lo olvido por años.

Este mes la vemos en "Miracles of Heaven"(2016), una cinta religiosa sobre una familia que viven el milagro de que la hija menor sea curada de una inexplicable enfermedad. Nuevamente recurriendo a un rol materno y apuntando a una audiencia familiar, veremos si la cinta goza del éxito que han tenido recientemente este tipo de filmes en busca de un genero olvidado para aquellos devotos y creyentes. Y para este verano, la veremos en "Nine lives", una comedia sobre un hombre de negocios que ve su vida transformarse cuando literalmente toma forma de su mascota, un gato. Poco se sabe del proyecto mas co protagoniza con el aclamado actor Kevin Spacey y aunque de momento la historia suena a otra de sus ya conocidos gustos por historias absurdas y sin sentido, esta podrá ser la sorpresa que demuestre su talento y tal vez su rol finalmente rompa estereotipos y la ponga en camino de ser tomada en serio y elegir mejores papeles y proyectos, un cambio que le sentaría bien tras su sonado divorcio con Affleck y que ha cubierto las noticias en mayor numero que sus recientes participaciones. O tal vez esta solo sea su verdadera historia. Al final de cuentas como ella una vez cito, actuar nunca fue posible para ella.

10 Cloverfield Lane ... road to the apocalypses

For starters and without any intention to spoil the surprise for those that haven't seen the movie have to warn that if you continue reading the surprise that brings watching a film event like this would be totally ruined but if that won't stop you to run to the theater and watch this new project from the continuously greatest geek of this era, J.J. Abrahams, have to say that this is nor a sequel or a spin off from the other film from 2008 that share part of their title, so if you loved that one this might be a good surprise but maybe a kind of disappointing one but also if you didn't like it or are open to embrace new ideas and a new fresh proposal that parts from the same canvas bringing a new turn into something that could definitely become a new kind of series that brings a new proposal with every new entry. With that been said, this is "10 Cloverfield Lane" (2016), a project that tok everybody for surprise when it's first preview came out just two months ago reveling what could be the sequel to that box office hit where a monster came out of the Atlantic ocean to destroy most of New York City .

This time we don't know much but the story centers in 3 main characters, that seems trapped in a bunker, but why? who are them? what's happening out there? is this part of what we already saw years ago?. The story focuses in a young woman that apparently has been kidnapped but also seems there is another guy and seem to get along just fine, but also she is fighting to get out there. She's hurt and that's because she just woke up from a car accident when she was running away from her boyfriend because that is what she does, she runs away when things get complicated, but also that has made her a strong woman, ready to fight to survive so when she realizes of her new reality she can't but fight for her freedom if there is still one, but seems the life she knew is over. All this comes from her captor or savor, an old man that is trying to keep her safe and with the help of a young man, became the three of them a new family trapped in this new reality that lead them to just wait and help each other to keep things going down there. The reason? apparently the world has started a fight with something we don't know and people are dying if have no refugee.

Two men, a woman, co existing in a small place under post apocalyptic circumstances with a different agenda of their own only get things started for chaos unless the possibility of something bigger is happening above them and they actually need from each other or this is just the perfect excuse to cover their own true colors? While we are awaiting for a new monster to show up in the screen and we keep going from one twist to another in the plot that keeps us at the edge of the seat we start to realize how true the slogan of the movie is, monsters come in all different forms, meaning sometimes we are more focused for those creatures we don't know and can pop out in any second to destroy our civilization or to start destroying humanity, but how about those monsters that live next to us or hide inside our thoughts and just come out when we aloud them or we become pray for others?

A definition of a monster comes to different perspectives and interpretations, a monster movie also can be seen as a disaster movie or an intense thriller, so when we get a mix of both we get also a mix of monsters and interpretations but the most interesting and the one that has all the critics raving for this movie is the one that hides just next door, and the fact that we as humans are a very complex creatures that can turn from great humble and unselfish moments to others that can be judge as psychotic and aggressive. We move around others with a face trying to fit in society but always back in our heads another reality hides and keeps us motivated to pursue it fighting and learning how to achieve it, with an illusion that allows this idea to become a goal either for bad or good. We all one from different places and our stories got us to the place we are now and most of that comes from the decision other made for us in early years and the ones we started once we became grown ups, and are those decisions that started defining us and defining the real person hiding over that idea that most people see in us when meeting us.

We can be fighting monsters from deep waters or aliens from far out space but in every second of that fight we will be fighting our own instincts and are those that will get us to a real fight agains us or others and sometimes creating virtual realities will keep us move along others day by day until an opportunity to achieve that need presents in front of us. And as we can find monsters that can destroy a building with just a push others can annihilate a person with a bite, we also can find all kind of shapes and intentions from the monsters among us, capable to destroy a life with just a move or decision as bringing someone down with a phrase or sentence. Being able to identify all these monsters living among us will make more than a scientist trying to find life out of the planet or discover a new species but is our strength to face our own demons what will train us for that big test if the opportunity presents or will destroy us when facing them, so once you fighting to survive the apocalypses knowing who you are and what you are capable of will save you or destroy. Maybe.

Zootopia .... it's a wild world out there.

Y nuevamente Disney se vuelve a salir con la suya y el genero de animación nos vuelve a presentar una de las mas interesantes historias que ya quisiéramos ver en un drama o comedia o como este caso un thriller disfrazado de comedia animada y que para todos los adultos exepticos que tras ver el trailer o los posters se imaginaran una película mas de niños y para niños evitandola a toda costa a menos que tengan que ir arrastrados a la sala de cine, déjenme decirles que no es necesario presentar mucha resistencia a que están por presenciar una de las propuestas mas frescas, actuales y divertidas que hemos visto recientemente y que ha este momento del 2016 la pone como una de las cintas con mejores criticas estrenadas a la fecha. Logro que muchas otras, pretenciosas y no, ya quisieran. Y para empezar basta decir que primero para sentarse y disfrutar este tipo de cintas uno debe embrazar su niño interno y deleitarse con la idea de que este tipo de historias que inicialmente van dirigidas al entretenimiento del publico infantil, usualmente están envueltas en una presentación de metáforas que las hacen accesibles y divertidas para ellos pero recientemente sus historias y aveces su humor están mas dirigidos a los adultos que son quienes al final terminan pagando los boletos y si ellos salen tan satisfechos como los pequeños, tenemos un producto ganador.

La premisa es muy sencilla, en un mundo habitado únicamente por animales, estos han evolucionado a un grado muy similar al que los humanos tenemos ahora si seguimos la teoría de la evolución de Darwin, donde provenimos de los simios. Así, todas las razas de animales coexisten civilizadamente, hervideros y carnívoros caminan en dos patas, usan tecnología y ropa y co existen en un mundo que tiene pequeñas granjas y grandes ciudades, pero la mas importante de ellas es la que da titulo a esta cinta, "Zootopia" (2016), donde todos aquellos que buscan ser alguien, van ahi en busca de esa oportunidad y dispuestos a luchar por ese sueño. La historia se centra en una pequeña coneja que lucha por ser la primera conejo en la policia de la ciudad, luchando encontrar de prejuicios hacia su raza y de sus propios semejantes. En esta lucha conocerá interesantes personajes como un peculiar zorro que vive engañando a otros para hacer negocios poco ortodoxos y que terminara ayudando a esta peculiar coneja que recurrirá a su ayuda para resolver un caso que involucra el hecho de que varios animales se han vuelto salvajes otra vez poniendo en riesgo la civilización como se conoce ahora.

Si esto les resulta muy familiar no es de sorprender pues aunque hablamos de conejos y leones, zorros y osos, como mencionaba en un principio, esto es meramente una metáfora que sirve para retratar una historia muy actual donde en pleno 2016, diferentes razas humanas co existen de manera civilizada, dando esta palabra para muchas connotaciones, pero al final de cuentas al menos se pretende y lucha por esa civilizada co existencia. Y no solo se trata de razas, sino de creencias religiosas, sexos, preferencias sexuales, alimenticias, ideologías, profesiones, etc. Vivimos en una época donde variedad ha tomado un giro de aceptación y con un significado mayor que grita aceptación y respeto dejando atrás tantas normas y etiquetas que limitaban al ser humano para explorar sus diversas facetas y evoluciones, permitiendo ahora tener una gama de colores mas allá del blanco y negro y donde al final de cuentas lo que importa es que somos humanos y mientras aprendamos a respetar aquello que por el hecho de ser diferente no implica sea malo y si hace feliz a otros es tan valido como el propio.

Venimos de una historia donde diferentes culturas peleaban por conquistar otras, dadas sus creencias o tradiciones o simplemente por habitar tierras que prometían y ofrecían una mejor oportunidad. De ahi se fue evolucionando a un punto donde se crearon etiquetas donde la raza blanca se presumía como dominante y superior a cualquier otra, tratando de dominar al resto por asumirlas inferiores dada la diferencia en sus civilizaciones, pero ahora que todos estamos conectados de alguna manera via la tecnología donde podemos ver y enterarnos de lo que pasa al otro lado del mundo, entender como funcionan las cosas allá, las barreras de la ignorancia exigen ser destruidas y permitir aceptar y respetar esas diferencias encontrando un punto en medio donde todos vivimos en el mismo planeta y esta bien ser diferente y todos podemos aprender un poco de los demás y son esas diferencias lo que nos hará atraernos por otros y fascinarnos por lo diferente, ampliando nuestro conocimiento y sentimiento hacia nuevos horizontes. Desgraciadamente esto es una mera utopia, de ahi el titulo de la cinta, lo cual significa que estamos hablando de algo idílico y las cosas por desgracia y dada la complejidad de nuestra naturaleza, no son ni serán tan fáciles y es un ardua trabajo que llevara tiempo, mas lo importantes es empezar ya, pues es una lucha por romper barreras que ciegan la mente y que vienen de siglos atrás y aunque existe la promesa de las nuevas generaciones y la intención de esta cinta es precisamente apuntar a ellos para iniciar un cambio, desgraciadamente en muchas ocasiones esta herencia se sigue nutriendo en varias casas y con familias que no conocen mas allá de lo que ellos mismos heredaron y continuaran con la cadena impidiendo el cambio.

La idea de un mundo sin violencia, donde nadie trata de conquistar a nadie, ni dominar ninguna tierra sin importar lo que la naturaleza ofrece ahi, o el hecho de que las guerras ahora son un mero juego capitalista y politico para controlar a la propia sociedad y ciertas areas que amenazan con romper el order que el resto del mundo anhela es simplemente tan absurdo como la idea de un politico que no caiga en corrupción o un agente financiero que no busque la menta de obtener una alta retribución económica de sus servicios o un actor que no disfrute del aplauso del publico. Pero también existe algo que se llama esperanza y esta es una lucha que llevara generaciones y solo aprendiendo a ver al vecino de a lado no como alguien diferente por su raza o ideologías sino como cualquier otro ser humano es que romperemos etiquetas y aunque es nuestro instinto el criticar, el desear, el poder, la satisfacción personal, también lo es la madurez y la inteligencia para controlarlo y enfocarlo en otras direcciones como un tigre lo haría al ver a un pequeño ciervo y en vez de brincar sobre de el como su presa, jugar un partido de domino o futbol. Idílico, totalmente, imposible, definitivamente no, pero igualmente de difícil que seria hacer hablar y caminar en dos patas a todas estas razas de animales, también podemos empezar por hacer cambiar a todas esas personas en la cale aun con telarañas en la mente para ver el mundo de manera diferente y si después de leer esto logre que vayas a ver una película que de entrada se ve totalmente direccionada para niños, asumir que algo bueno hice y esto es posible pues el cambio ha comenzado y es el tiempo perfecto para la diversidad y tolerancia. Y si crees que la vida en la selva es salvaje tan solo sal a las calles de cualquier ciudad y presenciaras el mismo efecto topando con una amplia variedad de personajes y la vida ahi afuera hoy en día es una lucha constante de vida o muerte así que tal vez la metáfora es que los animales somos otros hoy en día.
